(Your name) is a 36 year old male with a medical diagnosis T12 paraplegia secondary to a fall which occurred in 1987. He is completely paralyzed from the waist down and is dependent on a wheelchair for mobility. He is married and is the father of one child, age 2. He requires a standing manual wheelchair to allow him to access heights above his head while taking care of his son.

(Your name) assessed a LifeStand wheelchair at the evaluation. The LifeStand is a manual wheelchair that has the ability to come to a full upright standing position. (Your Name) was independent in the set up and use of this device. He tolerated standing without any negative effects such as orthostatic hypotension. (Your Name) requires a LifeStand manual wheelchair for medical reasons. Standing has been shown to provide many benefits to those who require a wheelchair for every day use. The change in position allows for decreased risk of skin breakdown. Standing becomes another weight shift, which is important for people with spinal cord injury. Standing also provides range of motion to lower extremities without the difficulty one must go through to perform self-passive range of motion.Other benefits include: fewer urinary tract infections, decreased osteoporosis, and decreased spasticity.(Your name) will benefit from all of these physiological occurrences.
